Hey there, fellow internet citizens. We are back with a development update.
The last post was about a month ago, give or take a few days, but let’s see what’s new in that one month.
ARCADE
We have been working on the arcade game mode which is an extra in the main menu.
So far we only have 2 arcade game
- Im-Pong-Sibble (An old project of the lead developer)
- Photon Fury (A retro style space shooter)
We do not want to spoil much of it however we will attach this video from “Photon Fury”
MENU IMPROVEMENTS
All I Hear is Good News.
A panel has been added that once you are connected to the internet it displays the latest news for the game.
The images below showcase the
- The news icon which just shows up as usual when you’re offline. But if you’re online, it grabs an image from this website and shows that instead.
- The news panel itself
Turn up the music!
Most of the code for the music player has been re-written, made to work smoother. The album for the songs found in the arcade section have been added as well. Links also have been added for the songs.
New icons, who dis?
New input icons have been added replacing the old ones that were there before. These icons are made by Kenney, you can get them here. Make sure to follow and support Kenney, he makes great free assets for game developers to use. You can see the icons in the screenshot below.
Improved controller support
Now, more menus can be navigated by only using the controller, such as the pause menu for example.
Other updates
New Combat System
Attachments have been re-implemented for the new combat system. The weapon wheel has been scrapped and now for controllers we have this new weapon switcher, that you can see in the video below.
Ping-pong!
You can now ping weapons, or even anything else, using the middle mouse button or by pressing the right stick down on your controller.
Shake a leg
That’s right, now you can see your legs while you walk around in-game.
Also enjoy an image of the player from scene view and do not question why he has three hands.
Closing words
That is not all that has been done this past month, however we would not want to spoil everything that we worked on. We improved several other things, fixed some bugs (a lot of them actually), and generally made the game run just that much smoother.
Thank you for reading the blog post, we will be back with more next month around this time.
